Rethinking Forgiveness in Nigeria

Nigeria is currently at the crossroads on how to manage the jihadist terrorism that has ravaged parts of its sprawling northern region for over a decade. Over the years, the State has deployed the ‘stick’ through the use of force to repress terrorists. However, the arrest, incarceration and killing of terrorists have not resolved the Boko Haram impasse.

Lately, the Federal government has begun to shift ground from repression to reconciliation starting with the deradicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration (DRR)
of captured terrorists.
